Centre for Rural Health Data Management System (CRH)

This highly sophisticated real-time site was designed to generate research questionnaires for the Centre for Rural Health at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. The project consisted of two parts, the Data Management System (DMS) and the Tablet Capture System (TCS). The TCS uses Google Nexus tablets to capture data with cell data to upload real-time.

It is a vast document repository for the research datasets and papers to emerge from these surveys. A distinctive feature is that it caters for managing fieldwork and exports datasets directly to IBM’s Statistical Package for Social Services—a data analysis tool for academic research—and is also accessible via a mobisite. We also developed a mobile APP for collecting the data, which was a requirement for researchers working in rural areas with little or no online access.
