Development Research Uptake in Sub-Saharan Africa (DRUSSA)

A customised Joomla site developed for the British government-funded Development Research Uptake in Sub-Saharan Africa (DRUSSA) programme. The programme works with 24 SSA universities to develop capacity to make research more accessible to policymakers and communities. The site was designed to address four segmented audiences and it houses categorised blogs as well as an extensive index of documents and publications.

A unique feature is a mobile app that was designed specifically for African conditions, providing a solution to the dual problems of slow and intermittent connectivity in parts of the continent, and limited access in some universities to dedicated desktop or laptop workstations. It was designed for use on desktop, laptop and mobile devices, both online and offline. As far as we were able to establish, this was the first web-based app globally that was specifically developed for an academic environment at the time.
