The ACDIS database is a sophisticated demographic database operated by the Africa Centre, an academic unit associated with the University of KwaZulu-Natal and South Africa’s Medical Research Council (MRC). The database introduces the concept of “episodes”, which are ongoing entities representing time.
This innovative database concept has been adopted in a number of other countries operating demographic surveillance systems. Not only was Perlcom responsible for developing and implementing the database, but we also wrote the sophisticated data-capture and reporting applications. We provided the Africa Centre with an outsourced support team that managed its entire network of over 120 computers and servers until the centre was able to implement its own support systems.
